If you noticed that I wasn’t online much the past week, it’s because I’ve been traveling. It’s been a fun week too :)
I spent last Monday plane hopping my way from Wagga to Brisbane via Sydney and waiting for the OSDC conference main to kick off.
My talk wasn’t until Wednesday morning, so I spent the next few days trying to figure why dual display no longer works with either provided ATI driver for my radeon xpress 200M — to no avail. I think the current drivers hate randr or something. Thankfully someone lent me their laptop for the presentation and the talk went without a problem.
The best thing about conferences and the like is catching up with old friends and meeting new people. It was great catching up with Leslie, Lynne, Joel, Tim and others. I’m not even going to try list off all the people I met :)
I left Brisbane at 6:30am on the Friday, which involved waking at the delightful time of 4:30am. Once I touched down in Sydney it was a mad rush to get to Eastwood by 11am for the Corrections Services memorial. I arrived only 10 minutes late which is pretty good considering I had to haul my suitcase through a couple of train stations.
After the memorial, I made my way to Sridhar’s place to dump my luggage where I basically got greeted with “So, um, can you do your talk at SLUG tonight?”. We then headed to the harbour where I hung out with the chix for a while before we headed to SLUG. Of course, I had to borrow a random laptop again. It was great to have fellow LinuxChix there to put in their experiences, so thanks Mary and Pia :)
Since I rarely get to visit Sydney, (and really should more often) I made the most of being there and hung out with friends, flying back yesterday afternoon.
So, that was my week. What started out as going to a conference turned into like a mini-tour of my talk :)
